Global Competencies

Global Competence is a multidimensional construct that requires a combination of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values successfully applied to global issues or intercultural situations. Developing global competence is a life-long process, but it is one that education can shape. Global competencies are not “new skills” but they are now being applied in a global context. The Practice Enterprise provides an ideal environment for building the knowledge and cognitive skills trainees from the Western Balkans need to confront problems related to global and intercultural issues. The BRIDGE Practice Enterprise activities effectively address the development of global competence. They develop cultural awareness and interregional interactions, and prepare Western Balkan youth for the world of work in their region and in the EU by training in effective communication and teamwork and using technology on a global scale.

Global Competencies

According to the 2022 Bloomberg Global Citizens Report, the keys to multinational learning are global engagement, global knowledge and cultural understanding.

For BRIDGE project participants, there are various challenges of the EU labour market as they seek to make a transition from education to employment. These include digital skills mismatches, digital competency segmentation and an increasing demand for graduates with work-based global competences including socio-emotional skills and attitudes and multinational business competency and skills experience. Instead of a fixed job-specific candidate profile, employers strive to acquire flexible candidates who are familiar with work-based global competencies and are eager to refine them. The reality is an ever growing need to develop oneself and a continuous learning path which does not end when entering the regional or EU labour market.
